Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into Crossfit? I am a trial lawyer and run a multistate law firm, which means a whole lot of sitting on my rear inescapably. I was doing solo lifting at the gym 5 says a week, but it was just lifting (and then 60 mins of cardio on a treadmill), just super boring and not at all functional. I needed more… I needed to get in shape and something fun and challenging. My siblings who live elsewhere do crossfit and they are really fit so I went looking. When I came in to try it out I found a surprising combination of things in each class. I had done lifting and separately in the past I had done gymnastics for years, but never moved like this. I really started to enjoy the need to learn technique over time. In addition to just putting in the sweat equity. It always feels like me versus me which is my favorite kind of competition. I love the holistic approach, we do heavy lifting, conditioning, breath work, beach workouts, I had tried a bit of everything and never felt anything was right for me until I found this particular community. Not just the workouts but the people And coaches. I feel like we don't just learn to move weights up and down but how to functionally use that strength in the world, which I really love. Like, when I do burpees even, I'm thinking about working on my surfing pop up. It's not just cardio. And when I end up doom scrolling it's usually watching vids of athletes doing amazing things in crossfit gyms and wondering if I can work up to that. It looks fun, strong, and exciting which inspires me to want to get better. I didn't want to just lose weight, I wanted to get strong and have fun doing it. What keeps you coming back each day? The fun workouts, the coaches, and the community, seeing my own progression in a million ways. When I come to the gym I instantly feel stress leave my body. It is such a fun place to be around some of the most amazing people. It's so cool and humbling to be around such tough people who are also fun and funny and welcoming. I love seeing my progress when I can do something I couldn't before or finally cross some milestone. Some days I feel so defeated for some stupid small thing and I come in, find a spark of something, and leave feeling like a million bucks instead. I find myself pushing harder when I see us working super hard as a group while overcoming soreness and sometimes grueling challenges while people are still cracking jokes and sometimes even breaking into karaoke singing. Lol. And, success. I've done one on one with coach Kyle and nutrition with Casey, and while everything took time to click for me, I've lost 122 pounds since fall 2024 with their guidance, almost all of which was body fat. They always welcome me even on my crabby days and I can't think of any place I'd rather be. What is your favorite at-home exercise to do? BREATH WORK! If that counts as an exercise. It has changed me! I stretch and do body weight exercises every day, after a long early morning walk (without my dogs, I like a little me time!). I like to do some of our class stretches like the Spiderman lunges and twists, inch worms, slow pushups, and I'm working on my hollow crunches and holds because I'm weak there. I have a pull-up bar and I also really love to just do static hangs to stretch out my back. Way too much sitting in my line of work. If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be? jumping air squats. That would suck but I think it would be pretty much a full body workout and I could do them between court cases if I had to, no equipment needed. If I could do double unders I'd say those, but I'm not cool yet. What are 1-2 of your goals for 2025 One strict pull up for the first time in my entire life (which I just completed last week in class. YAYYYY) One double under! Maybe a hand stand walk? Favorite lift? Clean and jerk, although I am not great at it. If I could say favorite move, not necessarily a lift, I'd say hand stands. I can't believe I can do them and I have made such good progress. So close to hand stand walks! Least favorite Crossfit movement? Bulgarian split squats, AHHHHHH Hometown? new York new York is where I grew up and I consider home. insert Rockettes kick line to the song here Favorite Charleston Restaurant? Jinya Ramen Bar. Mmmm! Spicy chicken ramen with nori. If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be? Classical pianist I have played classical piano since I was 6 years old and always wanted to be a concert pianist at Carnegie hall. Does it have to be just one day? :) What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13? Don't be afraid of being different. Don't let being different make you mean. Use it to be kind and understanding. Work hard and don't let anyone tell you that you're not good enough to do something, whether it's a career, a goal, a lifestyle, just put one foot in front of the other, put in the work, and you can do anything in this world. Remember to look around, see, be grateful, and always share success by helping others with a hand up, because even on your worst days, somebody out there is suffering much more. And take care of your body. You only get one. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? Wayne Brady. Super intelligent and funny, surprisingly musically gifted, and seems like a really good person. One thing about me people would be surprised to know? I am in remission from stage four uterine cancer that I did not expect to survive. I let my hair grow really long now because I was totally bald a few years ago. Cancer took a good chunk of my internal organs and caused me to gain weight in excess of 500 lbs at my highest. I've worked hard to get that weight off. I had come to terms with death, which was hard to do but was necessary for peace in my brain. Now that I'm in remission, though, miraculously, I appreciate life so much more now than I did before cancer and I am grateful for every moment, good, bad, or ugly. If the Nomad coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare? Shredded chicken soft tacos, with seasoned black beans, cilantro lime rice, avocado, fresh jalapeño slices, cilantro, Greek yogurt “crema”, serrano pepper salsa, and topped with homemade crunchy air fryer chick peas for CROMCH. Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class. If you could only watch reruns of one show for a month (like loss of power w hurricane) what show would you download to watch over and over? Or if we already had one like that, then: What food do you enjoy that other people think is weird or gross/yucky.

I had always heard about CrossFit and how challenging it was And knew that I was up for a new challenge when it came to my physical fitness. What keeps you coming back each day? Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into CrossFit? I was born and raised in Charleston, lived downtown while attending College of Charleston, and after graduation, got married and became a step mom of 3 amazing kids. My then husband and I went back to school and finished our Masters degree in accounting before we had our daughter Sarah-Ellis (19). She will be starting her second year at USC in Columbia. I now work from home as a corporate controller. I generally spend my free time with family and friends… I love my time with my Mom, my Dad and my Stepmom. They are SO lovely and always have been super supportive. My brother, Rick, and his wife, Masheed, who have been members of the gym, and my nephews are here on James Island and they are so much fun to have around. And I love the weekly get togethers with my girlfriends, where we solve the problems of the world with a glass of wine or a pedi 🙂 My first experience with CrossFit was back in 2015, Kyle and the coaches hosted a women’s class where they asked members of the gym to bring a friend and we all did a class. Afterwards there were fun drinks and food! My sister-in-law, Masheed, was a member at the time and brought me and I have a pic of that day that I have included. I was so excited and I am so thankful she included me. ! I loved it from the moment I walked in. What keeps you coming back each day? I know I’ve said this before but I am so grateful and impressed with the environment that Kyle and Casey have established and consistently build upon at Nomad. The positivity, the support, the various opportunities for growth and development, all of these factors is what brings me back each day. I can guarantee that when I come to class, I’m going to have great conversations, laugh, and work really hard and push myself to where I’m questioning my life choices yet so thrilled when I finish the workout. Every coach is absolutely wonderful, supportive, and is quick to give critical instructions as we move through the workouts. Lastly, being surrounded by truly amazing people who inspire me everyday. I love that everybody in class has their own story, their own reason for being there and their own life struggles, yet they show up, work amazingly hard and that is inspiration I look forward to seeing every day. What is your favorite at-home exercise to do? Yard work! I have a secret love of yard equipment If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be? I would love to be able to go back in time to sit down and have coffee or a glass of wine and just really talk with each of my grandmothers at my age. I would love to hear their perspective on how they are handling their lives at that time. I was just too young and immature to have real conversations with them when they were still alive. One thing about me people would be surprised to know? I am officially an empty nester so I am now in the process of deciding what is next! Right now the options are a) adopt lots of cats because they really are just so cute! Granted that would seal the deal on my being single for the rest of my life and I’m just not sure I’m ready to take the plunge quite yet. b) adopt a dog, which I am actively looking c) start traveling, I obviously wouldn’t move anywhere….I love my family, friends, and gym/yoga time too much but I can work anywhere and would love to start visiting people and seeing places! Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into CrossFit? I ran Cross Country and played Soccer in High School. After graduating I did what most do and went to a GLOBO Gym. I had no idea what I was doing, and the standard 3 sets of 10 reps wasn’t producing any results. My younger brother was doing CrossFit and convinced me to give it a try in 2009. I’ve been hooked ever since. What keeps you coming back each day? I enjoy sharing the misery with others, the varied movements, and how the strength and movements translate into everyday life. What is your favorite at-home exercise to do? I don’t work out at home. I prefer to suffer with others. If I’m desperate I’ll go for a run. If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be? That’s tough but something on the rig… Pull-ups or T2B probably. What are 1-2 of your goals for 2025? I think it would be cool to meet a leader from one of the Ancient Civilizations. Preferably an Egyptian Pharaoh or a Mayan King. I’d like to learn the true meanings behind their megaliths. One thing about me people would be surprised to know? I’ve got 40+ flight hours for my pilots license, but never took the final test. If the Nomad coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare? I’ve always enjoyed doing crawfish/crab/shrimp boils. It’s a good time to chat and chill with everyone! Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class. If you had to choose to be blind or deaf, what would you choose?

Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into CrossFit? I was born and raised in New York, just outside the city (Alexis would call me “bridge and tunnel”). I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and my law degree from Brooklyn Law School. We moved to James Island in 2021, shortly after the COVID lockdown was lifted. My first experience with CrossFit was in 2015, but I stopped when I moved uptown and too far away from that gym, so I became a fatty mcfatfat lawyer in NYC. Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into CrossFit? I’m very lucky to have grown up in an extremely active family. I started skiing as soon as I started walking, and we spent every weekend in Vermont. In the winter we skied, and in the summer we hiked. My dad has always done triathlons, and we’ve always been on the sidelines cheering him on. I played every sport under the sun, and settled on Volleyball in high school. I stopped playing competitively when I went to college, but still found joy in being active. Our best friend Matt started going to a CrossFit gym circa 2022 when we all lived together in Boston, and immediately fell in love with it. Jack was very interested in trying it but never hopped on it. So for Christmas that year, I got him a membership to the CrossFit gym down the street from our apartment. I was not interested in joining (merely intimidated), but when he asked me to trial the first class with him, I retaliated by only agreeing to going at 5:30am (we all know I’m a busy girl!). After that class, I happily joined and never looked back. So thank you Jack for pushing me to join you on that early Thursday morning in the dead of winter! I knew if I could survive a class then, I could survive a class at any time. What keeps you coming back each day? What gets me to go: the routine. What gets me to come back: how good I feel after the workout (mentally). What is your favorite at-home exercise to do? Pilates! Ring muscle up practice. I just can’t get it down, I’m too uncoordinated. Hometown? Medfield, MA Favorite Charleston Restaurant? Chico Feo for the vibes, Pink Bellies for the food. Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into CrossFit? My wife Cassandra and I moved in December 2019 to the USA. After living almost 4 years in Berlin, Cassandra got homesick and I was ready for a new adventure. Our first plan was to start our new life in Austin,TX but destiny had something different in mind.
