Tell us a little about yourself and what got you on the path to CrossFit…What keeps you coming back each day?
I grew up very active, always participating in some sport/activity whether it was horseback riding, softball, volleyball, swimming, golf, or tennis. I went to Virginia Tech (GO HOKIES!) for undergrad and medical school
nearby at VCOM. This is when I really started working on my own personal fitness with running and weight lifting regularly. I moved to Charleston for residency in 2015 with my fiance (now husband) Reeder and in a few short months we realized Charleston would likely be our forever home. In September 2018, I started my new job as a Family Physician at Berkeley Family Practice. I knew I needed to find a gym that would keep me motivated and help me keep up with my own physical and mental health. My requirements were simple- I needed somewhere with a 5:30am class, doing something I enjoyed that kept me motivated enough to keep coming back. That is where CrossFit James Island fit into my life and three years later continues to be one of my favorite places to be. I love the supportive community (especially my 5:30am crew!), all the friendships I have cultivated over the years and the friendly competition the gym allows for. CFJI has been so supportive over the years, through the good times and the bad, and such an important part of my pregnancy over the last 8 months in keeping me healthy (and sane). I look forward to my next adventure as a new mom and tackling my postpartum fitness goals.
What is your favorite at-home exercise to do?
Cycle classes on the Peloton or running
If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be?
Kettlebell swings!
What are 1-2 of your goals for 2021? Have you accomplished any of these?
I found out I was pregnant one week before the New Year, so my goals this year have been a little different. My top two goals were to keep moving and sleep more. Since I found out I was pregnant, I have completed 104 CrossFit classes and 83 Peloton classes (bike, walk/run, strength, etc). Also, I have prioritized sleep and made sure to get 7-8 hours every night this year which is a huge improvement from previous years.
Favorite Lift?
So hard to pick just one! Probably squats (front/back) and deadlifts.
Least favorite Crossfit movement?
Ring dips- they are just so uncomfortable for me- probably should work harder on mobility :)
Hometown?
Gaithersburg, Maryland
Favorite Charleston Restaurant?
Barsa
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Cake decorator
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Life is going to be full of exciting adventures and tragic events. Stay grounded and just keep moving forward to accomplish your goals. And no matter what, don’t forget to have fun!
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Quentin Tarantino- I have so many questions.
One thing about me people would be surprised to know?
I played the trumpet in marching band for 4 years in high school (and was section leader for two of those years). (Bonus: I enjoy impersonating pterodactyls in my free time).
If the CFJI coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?
Appetizer: Old bay shrimp cocktail, blistered shishito peppers
Main dish: Crab cakes (jumbo lumb, no filler, Maryland style), grilled asparagus, scalloped or twice baked potatoes
Dessert: Angel food berry trifle and homemade chocolate chip cookies
Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class.
If you could go back in time to relive any day/memory in your life, what would it be?
