Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into Crossfit?

I’m a fifty year old (ugh) recovering teacher who now practices law and lives on JI with my wife and two kids. I played soccer all my life until my second kid showed up and life got hectic. I decided I needed to try and get fit again while watching my father’s health swiftly decline after years of a sedentary lifestyle. My brother is a personal trainer and CrossFit coach, and he convinced me to give it a try since I never could get into the traditional gym scene. Nomad was the closest box to my house, so I signed up for OnRamp and here we are.

What keeps you coming back each day?

I feel like the cliche answer is the community, but that’s a real factor. It’s great to have a group of people who cheer you on and keep you accountable (shout out to the 7AM crew). In addition to that, I enjoy learning the various lifts and have found that it scratches the itch that playing sports used to.

What is your favorite at-home exercise to do?

Air squats because I can knock out a couple dozen while I’m cooking.

If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be?

Can I say air squats, again? I’m gonna say air squats.

What are 1-2 of your goals for 2026?

String together more than 5 double unders in a row and stay injury free.

Favorite lift?

Power snatch

Least favorite CrossFit movement?

Running, but if that doesn't count as a CrossFit movement, then dumbbell box step overs. They wreck my knees.

Hometown?

North, SC. For those unfamiliar, North is 100 miles southeast of Due West.

Favorite Charleston Restaurant?

Wild Olive

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Park Ranger

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Enjoy your time with no responsibilities, cause they’re gonna kick you in the teeth at some point.

What’s one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

The right combination of internet search terms will yield artwork of me as gay Jesus.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

Mark Twain

If the Nomad coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?

Garlic spare ribs with roasted broccoli and baby spuds. Or maybe we’ll just eat strawberry pie.

Give us a “Question of the Day” to use in class.

What was the first concert you attended, and is the band still together?
