Member Spotlight — Dan Kuendel

Fresh on the CFJI Scene in 2017, Dan immediately bought into a healthier lifestyle and began consistently working out at the noon or night classes. Most recently, Dan won the gym's aesthetic vote in the Nutrition Challenge. Learn more about Dan and how the challenge and gym has changed his outlook... and if you're looking to get Dan a gift for the holidays, make sure it is NOT a sombrero.

Fresh off a nutrition challenge win, how has diet and nutrition changed since doing the 30-day challenge?

Definitely aren’t as strict as we were during the challenge. But trying to keep it Paleo 80% of the week… weekend guests, dinners out, and drinking make it hard to stay strict for me.

What was the hardest part of the challenge and what bad eating habits were toughest to break?

Planning and preparation for meals… so much easier to just go eat out so this was the toughest part for me.

What keeps you coming back through the doors each day at CFJI?

Sounds corny but the results and the members. Noon classes are a good break up of my day too.

What do you like most about CFJI?

Coaching/Programming/mobility/loud music… I have been a member to 3 other boxes and none of them had all these pieces combined. CFJI does a great job in all areas.

Favorite Lift?

Thrusters

Least favorite Lift?

Thrusters… it’s a love hate thing where I love them in workouts but hate them afterwards.

Favorite encouraging words you’ve heard at CFJI...

“Hey your face doesn’t look as fat now” … To me after the challenge. Keeps me motivated.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

I have no idea. I have been trying to figure out what job I want to do for 10+ years now.

Who was your role model growing up?

Wish I had one that stands out … growing up I had a lot of very successful friends’ parents who I guess I sort of looked up to and aspired to be like in some ways.

What’s the most ridiculous fact you know?

It just takes a rubber band to castrate a bull… more odd then ridiculous.

What is the worst gift you’ve ever received?

Someone once gave me a Sombrero from their trip to Mexico. I watched their house/dog for a week and that was the thank you gift…

If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be and why?

My Dog. He is pretty spoiled, eats venison/chicken and grain free food, has multiple beds, gets to bring a bed on car rides and everything revolves around him....I feel like he has it pretty good.

Top thing on your bucket list…

I’d like to get my pilots license

Most random thing in your car…

Oral-B Floss sticks. Addicted to them and always have a bag in the car.

You’re a superhero...what’s your superpower?

To fly! Save me so much time getting places.

Who would you like to be for a day?

An athlete like Tom Brady would be fun

Who would play you in a movie?

Brad Pitt obviously.

One thing about me people would be surprised to know?

I have type 1 diabetes. Usually I don’t tell people about it and when people find out they think of Type 2 and say something about how I’m not that overweight which has nothing to do with Type 1! It’s a daily pain in the ass and sometimes I miss the gym or other things because of it.

2018 New Year’s Resolutions?

Same list every year... Drink less, save more, gym more... Hopefully I’ll succeed in at least one area.
