Tell us a little about yourself and what got you on the path to CrossFit…
Growing up I was always an athlete, participating in almost every team sport, but in my mid 30s I found myself out of shape and feeling complacent. I needed something to challenge me and get rid of my beer belly. :) I met Kyle through a networking group and joined Crossfit soon after that.
What keeps you coming back each day?
I love the community of people. I love seeing the people I’ve worked out with for years improve and challenge themselves. It’s amazing to see such a talented group of people do hard things together. I would ever challenge myself in the ways I do at CrossFit if I went to a regular gym.
What is your favorite at-home exercise to do?
I run… a lot! Outside of CrossFit I participate in an average of a race a month, but often 2-3 during the fall and spring. On average I run about 14 races a year. I’m not the best at it, but I’ve seen major improvements since I started CrossFit.
If you had to do 100 reps of one movement (not running), what would it be?
Deadlifts or Squats. I love those movements!
What are 1-2 of your goals for 2022? Have you accomplished any of these?
At CrossFit I wanted to do a bar muscle up and I have been able to do a couple of them now, but I still have a long way to go to get good at them. Personally I franchised my business (Bohemian Bull) and I wanted to get my first franchise open by the end of the year. I did that a couple of weeks ago in Greenville.
Favorite lift?
Deadlift! I’m not a super strong lifter, but the deadlift makes me feel strong.
Least favorite Crossfit movement?
I don’t have a least favorite, but I have a hard time with anything overhead. I used to not like burpees, but now I just go into each movement with a positive attitude.
Hometown?
I grew up in the military moving around every 2-3 years. I’ve lived in Charleston for 22 years now, so I consider this my home.
Favorite Charleston Restaurant?
Xiao bao biscuit
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
Maybe a pilot. I have a goal to get my pilot's license at some point.
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?
Don’t worry about what other people think of you. Be yourself, be kind, and live life with integrity.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Martin Luther King Jr or Nelson Mandela. I would love to hear how they kept their moral compass while living through such challenging times.
One thing about me people would be surprised to know?
I lived in Germany for 6 years when it was still East and West Germany. I was there when the Berlin wall came down. I was only 9 years old and I don’t think I appreciated or understood the relevance of it until years later.
If the CFJI coaches came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare?
Smoked baby back ribs, roasted sweet potatoes and cauliflower mac and cheese
